Have you ever considered making a bucket list? I know I have, but I’ve never gotten around to actually writing one. I had a conversation the other day with a friend, and we talked a bit about writing one. That conversation got me thinking about why I would want to make a bucket list.
Making a bucket list helps clarify and prioritize your life’s objectives and dreams, giving you a feeling of direction and purpose. It also helps you consider what is most important to you and make plans to achieve those goals.
A bucket list acts as a motivator, encouraging you to venture outside of your comfort zone and embrace new opportunities. Documenting your desires creates a tangible reminder of the experiences you want to have, which helps to make your dreams a reality.
Unfortunately, many think the list should focus on purchasing items and impressing your Instagram followers. It should be something that resonates with you and your ambitions.
Will your bucket list inspire or distract you from actual happiness and success? Consider these things before writing your own.
Maximize Your Bucket List:
1. Getting to Know Yourself. Are your choices consistent with your values, or are you competing with other lists you see online? Pursue your passions regardless of current trends.
2. Connect with Others. Many psychologists have noted that bucket lists are generally lonely hobbies. You’ll likely be happier if you involve your family and friends and look for opportunities to help your community.
3. Be Selective. Like the ever-expanding streaming watch lists, it’s possible to accumulate so many items that you lose track of what is important to you. Selecting a few priorities at a time will help you stay organized.
4. Consider Your Regrets. Ask yourself what you would do differently. Perhaps you want to…
